Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Dimitris began to study classical music at the age of 6 where he ended up earning four degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue and a diploma in classical percussion. Since jazz music has always been his passion (his father is well known Greek jazz trumpeter and arranger) he discovered www.vibesworkshop.com where he did online lessons and workshops with top jazz vibraphonists like Tony Miceli and David Friedman. A meeting with New York–based vibraphonist Christos Rafalides was also critical in Dimitris’ development. After being awarded a Fulbright scholarship, he moved to the United States to study with Tony Miceli and Don Glanden at the University of the Arts and privately with Christos Rafalides, along with other artists like Ed Saindon, Joe Locke and Kenny Werner.

Angelakis has performed in several clubs, events and festivals in USA, Asia (China) and Europe (Spain, Holland, England, Ukraine, Germany, Greece, Cyprus and Belgium). Some of the artists he has performed are Giannis Pavlidis (Dave Liebman), Paris Strother (Prince), Byron Landham (Joey DeFranscesco), Giannis Papatriantafyllou (Ralph Peterson Jr), among others. He has also shared the stage with Mulate Astake, Jason Brown, Eve Cornelious and Qui Quie Alvarado (Paquito D'Rivera). Besides that, Dimitris has recorded several albums in Greece (Giannis Papatriantafyllou “Absence”, Dimitris Kalatzis, Hardgroove quartet Yiorgos Fakanas group feat. Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez), in Europe (Marossa jazz project, Spain) and in USA (University of the Arts ensemble “Like no one else”, New Jersey).

Dimitris has also given several workshops in Spain (Seminario de Jazz e Musica Moderna Burela), in Greece (Jazz improvisation workshop Aristotle University, Percussion-Jazz vibraphone workshop w/ Petros Klampanis-Ionian University), in Ukraine (National Music Academy) and private lessons across Europe since 2010, where he had the chance to teach and perform alongside with great musicians like QuiQue Alvarado (Paquito D’ Rivera). As a music teacher, he also taught in many music schools/universities and European educational research programs in Greece, Philadelphia (USA) and in China, sharing his passion to students to underserved communities, international and public/private (music) schools.

"It's hard to go wrong with the sound of a vibraphone in the hands of a talented musician. Dimitris Angelakis brings good vibes in applying an entertaining touch with a laid-back and straight-forward Jazz sound. This Greek musician shows his appreciation for American Jazz legends in playing classics by Roy Ayers, Miles Davis & Cal Tjader".
